School Outreach Programme

EWG wants to get Ealing kids excited about nature!

Some of the ways this has happened are:

  • Six Hanwell schools were each given a bat box, bat detector and bat ID sheets following a donation from Hobbayne Trust to EWG. Teachers were also given training by EWG in bats in Ealing.
  • To celebrate the launch of Ealing Council’s updated Biodiversity Action Plan, the council funded free talks on Ealing’s biodiversity in primary and secondary schools. Natasha Gavin, an EWG member led the talks in December 2021. The majority of the photos and videos we showed were generously donated by EWG members, and to encourage more local families to join EWG each child received a handout. The handout, jointly produced by Ealing Council and EWG, gives hints and tips on how Ealing residents can help promote biodiversity in the borough and was designed by young EWG member, Max Klimowski, aged 13.
  • Engagement with Ealing-based Scout groups (Cubs, Beavers and Scouts).
  • Running free talks about Biodiversity.
  • Offering supervised conservation activities.
  • We added a specific age category for young photographers in EWG’s annual photography exhibition, and our overall winner for 2023 was from this category!

The EWG core team is currently without a School Outreach Officer; if you have some experience in education and helping children learn about the environment we would love to hear from you. Please email us at hello@ealingwildlifegroup.com to express your interest in the role.
