Hedgehog Using A Highway

The Hedgehog is not only considered a gardener’s best friend, they’ve also won our hearts being Britain’s favourite UK animal, but they are in serious decline!

Last year many of you kindly donated to our Hedgehog Highways fundraiser to extend the existing successful project further across the borough into Acton, Northolt and Southall. Thanks to fund-matching from Ealing Council we raised £10,000 and this summer the EWG Hedgehog Highway team are seeking volunteer support to kick off this second phase.

Additional volunteer support is needed, specifically within Acton, Hanwell, Northolt and Southall, to join the following teams.

Hole drilling team

Get your hands on some power tools to assist in drilling holes for free in garden fences to create a connected network of gardens for the Hedgehogs to roam.

Community engagement team

Undertake outreach by engaging with residents about the importance of Hedgehogs and getting them signed up for our free hole drilling service.

Hedgehog Highways project team

Support the main project team with your creativity and skills by attending a monthly online meeting and helping to coordinate various activities and events.

We know you love Hedgehogs as much as we do, so please help the team create new habitats and corridors for Hedgehogs to once again thrive in Ealing.

If you can volunteer to support any of these teams, please contact Gemma Holmes, EWG Hedgehog Highways Project Lead at gemma.lotha@gmail.com.
