Location: Meet at the corner of Bridge Avenue & Brookbank Avenue, Hanwell, W7 near the entrance to Bittern Field.
Join our battle against the beautiful but destructive Himalayan Balsam near Bunny Park! While these pink-purple flowered invaders may look pretty, they’re outcompeting our native plants and increasing flood risk.
Why It Matters: Last year’s efforts made a huge difference, but we need your help again! Each plant can produce up to 2,500 seeds that remain viable for 2 years. May is the perfect time to tackle them – before they set seed but when they’re easily identifiable.
What to Expect: This is relatively light work that involves some bending and working around nettles. Don’t worry if you’re new to this – we’ll provide full instructions and demonstrations!
Bring Along:
- Gardening gloves (we can provide some if needed)
- Sturdy footwear (wellies recommended)
- Long sleeves and trousers (nettle protection!)
- Water and snacks
- Sunscreen if it’s sunny
Please sign up in advance if possible so we can plan accordingly, or just show up on the day ready for action!
All under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
We’re a volunteer-run group and all our events are made possible by members who generously and enthusiastically give their time and expertise.
We believe access to nature should be free for everybody but if you want to support us with these events, you can donate here https://ealingwildlifegroup.com/donate/.
Thank you.
