Who we are

At Ealing Wildlife Group (EWG), we’re working towards a wilder Ealing, and a wilder London. Our community-led initiatives reconnect people with nature while restoring habitats and reintroducing key species. Now, we’re seeking a dynamic Urban Beaver Officer to join our pioneering Ealing Beaver Project at Paradise Fields, Greenford. This is a unique opportunity to shape the public’s understanding and appreciation of beavers – one of Britain’s most important keystone species and ecosystem engineers.

About the role

In collaboration with our project partners Citizen Zoo, Ealing Council and Friends of Horsenden, you’ll play a crucial role in creating a vibrant visitor experience, engaging and educating the public, and securing future funding to sustain the project. Your mission? To inspire and inform at least 5,000 visitors over the next year, while showcasing the transformative power of beavers in an urban landscape.

Key responsibilities

  • Engagement and Education: Lead public tours, workshops, and events at Paradise Fields, sharing the story of beavers and their role in wetland restoration.
  • Visitor Experience: Develop and deliver engaging on-site interpretation, signage, and interactive materials that enhance visitor learning.
  • Community Outreach: Collaborate with local schools, community groups, and volunteers to foster a sense of stewardship for the project.
  • Fundraising: Work with EWG and Citizen Zoo to identify and secure new funding streams to support the continuation of the Urban Beaver Officer role and associated projects.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track visitor numbers and demographics, engagement activities, and conservation outcomes, reporting back to project stakeholders. Work closely with and report as needed to the Council site ranger and parks team.
  • Beaver Advocacy: Promote the benefits of beavers using the site as a demonstration of nature based solutions to climate change in urban areas whilst achieving a range of social and ecological co benefits.
  • Site maintenance: Help to keep our beaver site at Paradise Fields a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the public and a safe space for our beaver family.

Who you are

You’re practical, pragmatic and an engaging communicator with a passion for wildlife and community engagement. You thrive on working independently and creatively in a dynamic environment. Ideally, you have:

  • Experience in environmental education, community engagement and volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of British wildlife, particularly wetland habitats and beavers.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A can-do attitude and self-starter mentality.
  • Confidence using social media to enhance reach and engagement.

Perks
