It’s Bio Blitz Time! Join us in discovering just what lives in our nature reserve! We will be recording and observing all kinds of plants, insects, animals and birds. We will have the moth traps, and small mammal traps out overnight so we can see what we find on the day. At night we will be searching for bats with our bat detectors!

We have started to use the iNaturalist phone app to record our sightings, the app can be found here for iOS and here for Android. You can also submit sightings via their website if you are using a camera to take photos. We have our own project for EWG@Costons Lane, and when you submit a phone sighting, it automatically goes into our group! iNaturalist has many experts to help us identify our finds and if the results get to research grade they go to the GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (click here for more info!)

If you’re a beginner or experienced naturalist, anything you see will be important! We need bug hunters, bird watchers, plant specialists, and bat watchers! There is a path but sturdy shoes (and possibly wellies) and long trousers are recommended.

You don’t have to come for the full 12 hours, just pop in when you can for as long as you want and let’s see what we can find! The entrance to the reserve is off Ruislip Rd across from the Lidl Car Park, we have a sign on the gate! There will also be tea/coffee/cocoa/water, and cakes & biscuits.

The Nature Reserve will be open to the public every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, so come on down and relax in this little natural paradise! We have a bird hide, several ponds and wetlands, a small wood, a wildlife garden, a sunny deck to relax on and enjoy a flask of tea.  You can spot foxes, woodpeckers, slow worms, newts, frogs, spiders, insects, dragonflies, butterflies, red kites,  bats, pondlife,  and things we haven’t even discovered yet!
