This walk outside of Ealing offers a different set of birdlife from the borough along the Thames Path on the river’s south bank upstream for about 3 miles.

Led by Ealing naturalist Neil Anderson, who will use his knowledge and amazing eyesight to scan the exposed banks of the river to spot winter-visiting waders and wildfowl as they feed on the exposed mud at low tide. We should spot a variety of water birds, hopefully up to four species of gull, Cormorant, Grey Heron, several species of duck and maybe an egret or wader.

We will meet outside the now-closed ASK Italian restaurant at 85 Kew Green, Kew, Richmond, TW9 3AH on the southern bank of the Thames just off the A205 opposite Kew Green. Driving to this event is not recommended as parking in the Kew and Richmond areas is limited. Use public transport from Ealing Broadway on the 65 bus alighting at the Kew Green (Stop A) then a two-minute walk to the meeting point or via the District line or Overground to Kew Gardens station then a 16-minute walk to the meeting point. On reaching Richmond we’ll find a warm venue to discuss our sightings and enjoy a warm drink.

Should the weather be a washout or forecasted high winds (we’ll be walking under many trees) the event will be cancelled, RSVP so you will be informed. The weather situation will be monitored in the hope that 24-hour notice can be given of any cancellation. Waterproof footwear or wellies are advised as the path can be muddy in places and dress appropriately for the weather by wearing layers.

NB – All under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
